Results in 2024

In 2024, the first stage of the program was implemented, focusing on the study of theoretical and methodological concepts, criteria, and principles of the structural and technological modernization of the national economy, taking ESG approaches into account.

Based on the results of the first stage of the research conducted in 2024, scientific articles were prepared and published covering:

  • theoretical and methodological approaches to structural and technological modernization of the economy considering ESG factors;
  • results of a comparative analysis of international (OECD) and national experience in ESG-oriented modernization;
  • methodological approaches to assessing the technological and ESG potential of the basic sectors of the economy;
  • models and tools for integrating ESG approaches into strategic and corporate governance.

The publications were presented in peer-reviewed academic journals, including those recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education, as well as in international scientific citation databases.

Direct Results

New theoretical and methodological provisions for the structural and technological modernization of the national economy were developed, taking ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) approaches into account, aimed at defining priorities to enhance Kazakhstan’s competitiveness in the context of the global energy transition.

Concepts, criteria, and principles of ESG were developed for the purposes of technological modernization of the national economy, based on a synthesis of the experience of OECD countries with high carbon potential.

New knowledge was generated in the field of assessing the current technological potential of the basic sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy, along with the development of a system of indicators characterizing the efficiency of the use of natural, human, and managerial resources of enterprises in key economic sectors.

A new simulation model was developed for integrating ESG approaches into the strategic planning and corporate governance systems of enterprises in the basic sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy.

In 2025, the second stage of the program was implemented, during which a comprehensive analysis of technological potential was conducted and an assessment of the strategic planning systems of enterprises in the basic sectors of the Republic of Kazakhstan was carried out, taking ESG indicators into account.

Based on the results of the second stage of the research conducted in 2025, scientific articles were prepared and published covering:

  • the results of a comprehensive analysis of the technological potential of the basic sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy for the period 2013–2023;
  • specific features of integrating ESG indicators into strategic planning and corporate governance systems of enterprises in the mining industry and the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
  • methodological approaches and forecast scenarios for ESG-oriented development of enterprises in the basic sectors of the economy up to 2030.

The publications were presented in peer-reviewed academic journals, including those recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education, as well as in international scientific citation databases.

In 2026, the third stage of the program was implemented, focusing on the development of strategies for the structural and technological modernization of the basic sectors of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s economy, taking ESG approaches into account up to 2030.

Based on the results of the third stage of the research conducted in 2026, scientific articles were prepared and published covering:

  • strategies and mechanisms for the structural and technological modernization of Kazakhstan’s key economic sectors, incorporating ESG approaches in the context of the energy transition;
  • methodological and institutional aspects of implementing national ESG standards and digital tools for assessing the efficiency of resource utilization by enterprises in the basic sectors;
  • approaches to the development and application of an automated digital platform for evaluating a system of indicators that characterize the efficiency of resource use by enterprises in the basic sectors.

The publications were presented in peer-reviewed academic journals, including those recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education, as well as in international scientific citation databases.

Direct Results

Recommendations were developed to enhance the efficiency of the use of natural, human, and managerial resources of enterprises in the mining industry and agro-industrial sector of Kazakhstan.

Draft National Standards for the implementation of ESG approaches and models at enterprises in the mining and agro-industrial sectors of Kazakhstan were developed.

Long-term and medium-term development plans for enterprises in the basic sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy were developed, taking ESG indicators into account up to 2030.

Directions and mechanisms for implementing the Strategy for Structural and Technological Modernization of Kazakhstan’s basic economic sectors in the context of the energy transition up to 2030 were proposed.

An automated digital platform was developed to assess a system of indicators characterizing the efficiency of the use of various resources by enterprises in Kazakhstan’s key economic sectors.
